Importance of Taiwan for Western World: An Analysis
China-Taiwan relations are among the most sensitive in the world. Taiwan’s strategic location in the Western Pacific, coupled with its technological capabilities, makes it an important area of interest to Western powers, especially the United States, and to the European Union, because of its economic potential. The focus of this paper is on Taiwan's importance within the context of security, the interconnectedness of economies, and technological supply chains. It explores how the semiconductor industry, trade routes, and Taiwan’s geopolitical location affect Western countries’ defensive, economic and strategic considerations, including possible dangers and the stakes if any further escalation in the Taiwan Strait occurs.
